The amount of multimedia data from different sources is growing very fast. Multimedia data have become the majority component of information acquisition, exchange and consumption in various web-based services deployed on various platforms. Consequently, multimedia information search has wide and important application potentials in the cyberspace. However, there exists several challenges of multimedia data from different sources, such as complex and big data, various inter-connections, difficulties in content understanding, lack of well structural organizations, and deficiency of intelligent search.
This workshop is devoted to the publications of high quality papers on technical developments and practical applications about cross-platform multimedia big search. It will serve as an international forum for recent advances in the fields of multimedia content representation, cross-platform correlation, content analysis and understanding, multimedia knowledge graph, and multimedia indexing and retrieval. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
Shuqiang Jiang (SM'08) is a professor with the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing. He is also with the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Information Processing, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research interests include multimedia processing and semantic understanding, pattern recognition, and computer vision. He has authored or coauthored more than 100 papers on the related research topics. He was supported by the New-Star program of Science and Technology of Beijing Metropolis in 2008, NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund in 2013, Young top-notch talent of Ten Thousand Talent Program in 2014. He won the Lu Jiaxi Young Talent Award from Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2012, and the CCF Award of Science and Technology in 2012. He is the senior member of IEEE and CCF, member of ACM, Associate Editor of IEEE Multimedia, Multimedia Tools and Applications. He is the vice chair of ACM SIGMM China chapter, member of the standing committee of CCF TCMT, general secretary of IEEE CASS Beijing Chapter. He is the general chair of ICIMCS 2015, program chair of ICIMCS2010, special session chair of PCM2008, ICIMCS2012, area chair of PCIVT2011, publicity chair of PCM2011, web chair of ISCAS2013, and proceedings chair of MMSP2011. He has also served as a TPC member for more than 20 well-known conferences, including ACM Multimedia, CVPR, ICCV, ICME, ICIP, and PCM.
Dr. Kai Zheng is a Full Professor with the School of Computer Science and Executive Director of Advanced Data Analytics Centre at Soochow University. He received his PhD degree in Computer Science from The University of Queensland in 2012. He has worked as a DECRA Researcher at University of Queensland during 2014 and 2016, after receiving the Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award. His research focus is to find effective and efficient solutions for managing, integrating and analyzing big data for business, scientific and personal applications. He has been working in the area of spatial-temporal databases, uncertain databases, trajectory computing, social-media analysis and bioinformatics. He has published over 60 papers in the highly referred journals and conferences such as SIGMOD, ICDE, EDBT, The VLDB Journal, ACM Transactions and IEEE Transactions. He was the Program Committee Chair of the International Workshops on Human Mobility Computing (HuMoComp 2013 & 2014) , and the International Workshop on Big Data Management and Service (BDMS) in 2013. He is on the reviewer board of several top database journals such as IEEE TKDE, ACM TODS, VLDB Journal, KAIS and Geoinformatica. He is PC co-chair of APWeb 2016. He is on program committee of SIGMOD 2016, SIGMOD 2015, CIKM 2015, CIKM 2014, etc.
Xirong Li is an Associate Professor at the Key Lab of Data Engineering and Knowledge Engineering, Renmin University of China, Beijing, China. He is also with the Multimedia Computing Lab of RUC. He received the B.S. and M.E. degrees from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in 2005 and 2007, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 2012, all in computer science. His research interests include multimedia tagging, categorization, and retrieval. He was the recipient of the ACM SIGMM Best Ph.D. Thesis Award 2013, the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MULTIMEDIA Prize Paper Award 2012, the Best Paper Award of the ACM CIVR 2010, PCM 2016 Best Paper Runner-Up, PCM 2014 Outstanding Reviewer Award, and Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad 2011. He served as area chair of ICPR 2016, publication co-chair of ACM ICMR 2015, poster/demo co-chair of PCM 2015, and publicity co-chair of ICMR 2013.
Junchi Yan is a Research Staff Member with IBM Research - China, Shanghai. He is also with East China Normal University as a Guest Researcher and post-doc fellow. His research interests include computer vision and machine learning, especially graph matching, stochastic point process, and weakly supervised deep learning. Dr. Yan holds dozens of granted US patents. He has authored or coauthored more than 60 peer-reviewed papers on the related research topics including 10 first-authored papers in TPAMI, TIP, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, AAAI, IJCAI. He also serves as reviewer or PC member for JMLR, PR, NIPS, ACM-MM, IROS apart from the above venues, and a guest editor for Journal of Multimedia Tools and Applications. He wins the ACM China Doctoral Dissertation Nomination Award, ACM Shanghai Doctoral Dissertation Award, and IBM Research Division Award (twice). His research is supported by NSFC youth Fund, IBM Shared Union Research Fund, and China Postdoctoral Science Fund. He is a committee member of CCF MM and CCF CV, member of ACM. He is also an IBM Master Inventor (2014-2017). Dr. Yan earned his Ph.D. degree in Information and Communication Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
